Evangeline Lilly explains why the Ant-Man Edgar Wright would not be part of the MCU
Evangeline Lilly explains why the version of Ant-Man Edgar Wright was like a fish out of water in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ...
Twice Evangeline Lilly was about to leave the production of a film, the first time it happened with The Hobbit, the second with the film Marvel Ant-Man. In a lengthy interview with Buzzfeed, the actress said that initially was not interested in playing the role of the female protagonist of Ant-Man, but director Edgar Wright had convinced her revealing the name of the leading actor, Paul Rudd.
"I thought 'Oh shit. I love Paul Rudd, I really want to work with him! 'So I did,' OK, send me the script. I read it and I'll try to think about it '. And then I started to see the Marvel movie, which I had never done before. ... I am a bit 'a snob when it comes to movies - commercial ones, I never go to see them. I was pleasantly surprised. "
At that point, Lilly began to read the comics of Ant-Man before accepting the part.
"I thought the idea of combining the stories of Edgar [Hank Pym and] has been brilliant. You'll have fans who insist that you have to tell the story of Hank Pym and fans who want to Scott Lang. ... I think in the end we all nell'accontentare neighbors. And what is really fantastic and Janet Van Dyne is my mom. Hank Pym is my father. I was raised by two superheroes. I'm not a loser. I'm pretty smart, competent, capable, a tough woman, is really fantastic. "
But in May, the director has left the production to creative differences. The script has been rewritten and Paul Rudd has contributed to these changes. The actress explains that he had not yet signed the contract unlike their colleagues and that was planning to leave the movie.
"[I was] shocked. It mortified at first. Actually I should not say mortified, you know a creative project is a moving target, never end where you start, but all, I think, we're really excited signed with Edgar. We were excited to work with Edgar, we were fans of Edgar. So when there was a split, I was in a fortunate position because I had not signed my contract. So I could choose to leave and I almost did. Because I thought 'Well if it's because at Marvel are bullies, and just want a doll and not someone with a vision, are not interested in being in this film'. This was what I feared. "

Lilly then asked to read the new script before signing, and says that you have received the day before the dress rehearsal.
"I said that I will not do the tests until I see the script."
And here's how the actress explains the difference between the two versions:
"I saw with my own eyes that Marvel had entered the script in their world. I mean, have established a universe, and all have come to expect a certain aesthetic and a certain atmosphere in the movies Marvel. And what Edgar was creating was more on the kind of film by Edgar Wright. They were very different. And I thought if they had created the incredible vision of Edgar - it would be like that of a classic cartoon - it was such a riot to get around and it would be so fun to watch. But would not be part of the Marvel Universe. It would be a fish out of water, no matter how beautiful it was. We would have taken away from this universe cohesive they are trying to create, and therefore would ruin the suspension of disbelief that they are building. "
It is then followed by a meeting with the deputy of Wright, Peyton Reed, went very well, so eventually Lilly decided to sign his contract. Now the decision of Marvel and Wright to terminate their working relationship has finally makes sense. If you are building a cohesive world, you can not have something that is separated completely from the rest. We think of the Guardians of the Galaxy, even though we recognize the style of James Gunn, the film maintains the typical characteristics of the films of the MCU. In the case of Wright, however, besides the lack of connections with the rest of the Marvel universe, there was also a difference in the aesthetics and atmosphere of the film.
Certainly, after the story of Lilly, is the curiosity to at least read the script of Wright, as he speaks so enthusiastically. But it seems that the film is in good hands with Peyton Reed, even if the litmus test we'd only after seeing the film at the cinema.
Played by Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Corey Stoll, Patrick Wilson, Michael Pena and Evangeline Lilly, Ant-Man will be released on July 17, 2015 and will kick off the so-called Phase 3 of the universe Marvel film. Behind the camera there will Peyton Reed (Bring It On, The Break-Up, Yes Man), who took the place of Edgar Wright.
