Buffy and the damnation of 16/9: remastering in HD have ruined the show
Fox has rebroadcast episodes of Buffy in widescreen, but the remastering has had harmful results for the show, criticized even by Joss Whedon here is the comparison between some original shots and the "restored".
As demonstrated by the cases illustrious Star Wars, ET and Blade Runner (just to name the most sensational), the operations of restoration and remastering to digital does not always meet the favor of the fans, but the work done on Buffy - The Vampire Slayer seems frankly indefensible.
Since last August, the Fox began to rebroadcast the show in high definition, changing the aspect ratio (screen size) from the original 4: 3 to 16: 9, but the result is bad. The change in format has indeed expanded shots, revealing some details clearly superfluous or harmful side: below, for example, you will see an image in which it appears even a member of the crew (on the left). The 16: 9, in various circumstances, has even cut some crucial elements in the top or bottom of the picture, ruining the completeness of the visual context.
But not all. The next frame (the original 4: 3, left) shows that the framing was applied a filter to simulate the dark night; Well, in the remastered version that filter has been removed, and now the scene is filled with a soft light, no sense in relation to the climax of the narrative:
This, however, is an example of how the 16: 9 has forced Fox to fill the frame, excluding a large part of the setting that surrounds the character (and limiting the visual impact):
Even the series creator, Joss Whedon, has criticized the work of the network:
Buffy was shot in 4: 3 TVs because corresponded to that format. Buffy in widescreen version does not make sense (Firefly was filmed in widescreen, and Fox cut it).
