In May this year the writer Roberto Orci had been officially confirmed director of the third installment of the saga of Star Trek, then taking the baton from JJ Abrmas. However, a few dozen ago, had received the news that he would no longer be directing the film: from there, is triggered rumors about who might take his place and thus emerged a supposed short list: among the favorite names Paramount would therefore Rupert Wyatt (rise of the Planet of the Apes, the Gambler), Morten Tyldum (Imitaion the Game), Daniel Espinosa (Child 44), Justin Lin (remained free after the postponement of the Bourne Legacy 2), and Duncan Jones (Warcraft).

The reference to the original story that is in the works for a long time is probably Mute, an original screenplay that Jones has in hand for about 10 years. Last year, the director had declared its intention to make this story even a graphic novel before the movie itself with the help of Hellblazer and Preacher.

Pending further information, we remind you that Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and John Cho should go in the cast. As you know, Orci is known mostly for his work as a screenwriter teamed with Alex Kurtzman: the duo behind the major blockbuster of the past 10 years and they are the scripts of the sagas of The Amazing Spider-Man, Transformers, Star Trek but also of Now You See Me, and Cowboys & Aliens. Star Trek 3 would mark of made his directorial debut. The film's release is scheduled for summer 2016, just when will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
