The cast includes Henry Cavill in the title role, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon in the role of the antagonist, General Zod, Diane Lane, in the role of Martha Kent, Kevin Costner in the role of Jonathan Kent, Laurence Fishburne in role of Perry White and Russell Crowe in the role of Jor-El. The film was produced by Christopher Nolan and written by David S. Goyer, which is the director and screenwriter of The Dark Knight trilogy devoted to Batman.

The film was released in U.S. theaters June 14, 2013, while in Italy the 20th of the same month. Upon its release, The Man of Steel has received lukewarm critical but very large international business.
